Disposing of Household Hazardous Waste 
The Solid Waste District can accept smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, common household chemicals, and paint from area residents at their headquarters in Clermont County. This service is only available for pre-approved items, and only by appointment. Contact Us to schedule a drop-off or for additional information regarding this service.

If your type or quantity of material isn't eligible for local drop-off, a disposal voucher to Environmental Enterprises can be issued to residents who are willing to deliver the hazardous materials to Environmental Enterprise’s location at 4650 Spring Grove Avenue in Cincinnati. The District will mail or email a voucher to the resident, which the resident will take along with the materials to Environmental Enterprises, and the District will pay for the disposal fee. Current days/hours for disposal at Environmental Enterprises are Tuesday and Wednesday, 7AM-11AM.

Tips for Disposing of Paint: One option to to dispose of latex and oil based paint is to allow it to dry, and then it can be safely disposed of with your regular household wastes.  The drying process can be sped up by mixing the paint with cat litter, sawdust, or by leaving the paint can lid off.

Adams-Clermont Solid Waste District will accept paint for free at their offices in Batavia by appointment only. The paint is then taken to EEI or Matthew 25 Ministries for proper disposal or recycling. See the guidelines below.

Environmental Enterprises will accept paint for a fee, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7AM-11AM. Environmental Enterprises can be reached at (513) 541-1823 to confirm current pricing and service availability.

Matthew 25 Ministries will accept your usable liquid latex paint for free.  Prior to dropping off, please follow the guidelines below:

  • Cans without original labels are not accepted
  • No oil-bases or combustible paint accepted
  • No empty or nearly empty cans; should be at least 1/3 full
  • No dried paint cans
  • No deck stain
  • Latex paint should never have been frozen

ReUse Center also accepts latex paint for $2/gallon and sells the reblended paint at a discount

Disposing of automotive or flammable liquids:
Automotive liquids such as transmission fluid, brake fluid, motor oil, and gasoline or diesel fuel as well as other flammable liquids can be brought to the Clermont County Fleet Management Garage (located across from the Clermont County Jail) at 4435 State Route 222, Batavia, OH 45103 for free from 8:30AM - 3:30PM, Monday - Friday, excluding holidays. The Fleet garage can be reached at (513) 732-7775 to confirm open hours, current capacity, and acceptability.

Identifying Household Hazardous Waste:
Hazardous products typically have warning labels to help you identify them, such as:

    • “Harmful or fatal if swallowed” – poisonous
    • “Keep out of reach of children” – poisonous and has other hazardous properties
    • “Use only in a well-ventilated area” – poisonous fumes
    • “Do not use near heat” – flammable or may explode on changing from liquid to a gas
    • “Causes severe burns on contact” – corrosive and burns skin

Proper Handling of Household Hazardous Waste:

    • Store unused products in a secure location.
